North American Wetlands Conservation Act - Funding Update!

The President has released his proposed budget for FY 2009, suggesting $42.6 million for the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA). The House and Senate will begin drafting their appropriations bill soon, and with your support DU will continue to push for increased funding for NAWCA.

DU supporters made the difference last year, and NAWCA was funded at the President's full request. Now we need your help again to secure funding for one of the most successful wetlands conservation and restoration programs.

NAWCA is a program that provides grants for wetlands conservation projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Every $1 of federal money allotted to NAWCA must be matched by $1 or more from nonfederal sources like Ducks Unlimited or state fish and wildlife agencies. Because this program is so effective, funds are often tripled or quadrupled at the local level!
