Fountain Grove Conservation Area
Wetland Restoration

Purpose:
The Fountain Grove Conservation Area was the first wetland area developed by the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1947 and has now grown to 7,154 acres. The primary purpose of this restoration project is to reclaim and restore approximately 2,069 acres of wetlands that have been lost as a result of persistent flooding and sedimentation from the Grand River. The project will entail redesign of the three main pools (pools one, two and three), replacement of existing water control structures, an improved water distribution system, and construction of both interior and exterior levees that will reduce silt loads received during flood events while still maintaining a functional connection with the Grand River floodplain.

The Fountain Grove Conservation Area is intensively managed for a diversity of wetland habitat and provides a variety of wildlife related public recreation to include hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing. For more information regarding the Fountain Grove Conservation Area go to the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Conservation Atlas" at http://www.mdc.state.mo.us/atlas/ and type in the area name.
